Don Burrows, Avillion Hotel
...
Burrows's Come What May was one of the steamier of the Brazilian-flavoured pieces, taken on his chirpy alto saxophone.
...
Burrows was at his best on his exotic Babinda, opening with a lovely rainforest evocation on alto flute.
There was some fine playing from Pudney and Rytmeister, both old hands at giving Burrows what he needs to be relaxed and comfortable. He has never sought to rock boats or challenge preconceptions, but rather to soothe and tantalise, and simply entertain. The adventurous side of him is more obvious in his photography, and the combination of the two offered a portrait of the artist as a 75-year-old: remarkably unchanged.
