   The tabletop models, which use a system of three air filters, clean air at the rate of 900 square feet per hour, Oreck owner Jan Burroughs said, and are roughly a foot wide and 5 inches tall.

   But if you have carpet you just can't part with, Oreck carries "anything to clean your home," Burroughs said, including vacuum cleaners and floor steamers.
   
   "What you want to do is try to pick up everything that is in your carpet and get it out before it's particulated into the air," Burroughs said.
   
   The key to carpet cleaning, Burroughs said, is to use a vacuum with a strong enough agitator to vibrate dirt and allergy irritants out of the carpet. Couple that with enough suction capture particulates before they float away and the battle's half-won.
   
   The five residential models carried by Oreck should do the trick, he said.
   
   "Our machines are efficient and filtrate 99 percent of the particulate down to .3 microns," Burroughs said.
