George "Ed" Burroughs, 77 Safety Coordinator Sundance Mechanical & Utility Corporation
    ...
George 'Ed' Burroughs joined the Sundance Mechanical and Utility Corporation in Albuquerque 13 years ago. He brought with him an expansive work history and an exceptional skill set. His positive attitude is contagious and his co-workers have adopted a more optimistic attitude as well.

Mr. Burroughs started out as a surveyor for the Army Corps of Engineers. He then became a construction superintendent in 1965, building bridges, reservoirs, roadways, water and sewer lines, arroyos, and subdivisions. In 1989, he joined Sundance as a project manager and estimator.

In 1993, Mr. Burroughs moved into the safety coordinator position at Sundance, and through his efforts, the company has garnered the reputation as being one of the safest places to work in the state. Under Mr. Burroughs' leadership, Sundance received the Construction Users Roundtable National Safety Award and the STEP Award from the Associated Builders and Contractors.

Now 77, Mr. Burroughs is an advocate of change and a leader in keeping Sundance on the cutting edge of technology, implementing computerized project scheduling. He is also a frequent speaker at the American Society of Safety Engineers and projects a favorable image for the company.

Safety is not just his profession but also a way of life. As the first Fire Chief in his home community of Tijeras, he helped build the fire station and organized its volunteer Fire Department. Mr. Burroughs shares his philosophy as a septuagenarian
