Betty is a long-time MISSA student, is the coordinator of the Friends of MISSA , and also contributes as a member of the Board.She's always happy to assist students in any way she can.Barb has also attended many MISSA courses, has recently joined the Board and can be found, with Betty, at the " MISSA table".

Born and raised in Burnaby, BC, Betty majored in art in high school.After earning a teaching certificate she taught school in Chilliwack, Victoria and Powell River before returning to Victoria, marrying and raising two children.

She was always interested in art and handicrafts but it wasn't until a neighbour began offering pottery classes that she finally knew she had found her "art".And thirty years later she is still hooked!

Today her work is mainly in porcelain fired at Cone 5 or 8 in the electric kiln.A newly acquired spray booth has her eagerly exploring the layering of glazes to achieve a reduction look.

She loves working with clay.There is no end to the fascination in trying new shapes, experimenting with new glazes and she still gets excited with every kiln opening.

Since retirement, Betty Burroughs and Barb often get together to study/discuss glaze recipes or to "pot".Betty is a most encouraging, giving friend.Barb's husband, Ed often refers to them as the 'mad scientists'.Recently she was invited to join the inspiring Muddy Women pottery group.She loves this group of friends and learns so much from them.Their constructive criticism is a tremendous contribution to her pottery growth.
