   President and owner of The Burriss Corporation, a real estate development and construction management company.Founded in 1970, The Burriss Corporation has completed over 1300 projects in the southeast including shopping centers, office buildings, high rise condominiums, and assisted living facilities.John is also President of St. Andrews Fitness, LLC, which owns and manages fitness centers.
   
   From 1984 to 1988, John was a member of the South Carolina House of Representatives.During that time, he was Chairman of the Freshman Caucus and served on the Labor, Commerce and Industry committee and the Banking and Real Estate sub-committees.He has been active in numerous political campaigns including Chairing the Second District Reagan-Bush Campaign.
   
   John has been Chairman of several charitable boards and trade organizations and was a member of the Young President's Organization.He is former Chairman of the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control.John is also the President of the Gold's Gym Franchise Association
   
   He holds a BA in Economics from St. Andrews Presbyterian College.

   The Gold's Gym will be developed by John Burriss, owner of the Burriss Corp., a real estate development and construction company and the local franchisee for Gold's since 1997.
   
   Burriss and Patel had originally planned to do the 28-acre project together, but Patel will now be the sole owner.
   
   "We had talked about a number of different things," Burriss said. "Because I've got so much other stuff going and Rick wanted to do two hotels, we worked out an arrangement where he is actually going to have the ownership."
   
   The Burriss Corp. will manage the development, he said. "What I really wanted to do was make sure that we had a site for the Gold's Gym."
   
   The gym will be 55,000 square feet and will be the largest facility Burriss has built, eclipsing the Columbiana Point gym opened off Lake Murray Boulevard in 2005.
   
   In addition to everything that the Columbiana Point facility has, the new gym also will have a running track. "Our goal is for each one to be a little bit better than the last one," Burriss said.
