   Bill Burris is a senior member of Bull, Housser & Tupper's Litigation Group. Prior to joining the firm, Bill spent eleven years in private practice in civil litigation with an emphasis on personal injury and matrimonial work. He left private practice to join the Canadian Indemnity Company (now the Dominion Group of Canada) as Regional Counsel and set up an in-house legal department in B.C. to handle the litigation claims process.
   
   Since joining Bull, Housser & Tupper in 1986, Bill has acted for insurers on a wide range of claims involving major fire losses, professional liability, products liability, catastrophic personal injuries and property damage claims. Bill is a senior member of our Personal Injury Group, acting for plaintiffs with a broad range of injuries incurred in motor vehicle accidents and occupiers' liability cases.
   
   Bill appears as counsel defending actions against engineers, architects, lawyers and municipalities before judges alone and civil juries. He has also acted for municipalities. Bill was successful in having a large expropriation claim against a municipal client dismissed and monies advanced during the expropriation litigation returned to the client. He was also successful in having a major claim against an Irrigation District dismissed with special costs recovered against the plaintiff developer.
   
   Bill appears as counsel in the B.C. Supreme Court and the B.C. Court of Appeal and has recently appeared as trial counsel for a major Maritime client in a B.C. Supreme Court Action. In addition he has extensive training as a mediator and has resolved numerous cases through the use of mediators.
   
   Bill's clients include general insurance companies, professional liability insurers and a large mutual fund company. Bill is one of three Bull, Housser & Tupper Partners working on the Tobacco case for the Provincial Government of British Columbia.
   
   Bill serves his profession by acting as a Judge at Moot Court trials and as a Chambers Judge for articling students attending the Professional Legal Training Course. In addition, Bill has on a number of occasions organized and chaired Continuing Legal Education Society courses on Occupiers' Liability.
