  With nearly two decades of experience Lesley Burr is one of the very active contemporary artists living and working in Scotland today.She lives and works in Argyll on the West Coast of Scotland and has spent the last two years researching and developing a new body of work, influenced by the culture and landscape.
  ...
  For the Venice work Lesley chose to look closely at memorable aspects of the townscape that suggest a sense of magic, scale and granduer.There is an air of mystery and of multiple histories merging in these old and crumbling iconic buildings.All around is the reflected light of the canals and lagoon that softens our experience of decay and any suggestion that these structures could sink into the rising water.Looking at the real and imaginative she is exploring a range of ideas that include fragility, harmony and faith, loss, beauty and hope.Her remarkable poignant images have a gentleness and depth that that again go beyond the usual often pretty and quaint decsriptions of Venice.The beauty and resonace of her images are of a different kind, for they contain an understanding that all is impermanent and its beauty therefore all the sweeter.

  Lesley Burr is one of the very active, contemporary artists working in Scotland today.She studied at Glasgow School of Art, but found her main inspiration far from the city.She has a deep emotional and romantic response to the landscape of northern Scotland, which enables her to paint with unusual sensitivity.She is inspired by the strange luminous light of the north, the extreme contrast between summer and winter, the natural and philosophical thoughts concerned with the themes of life and death, faith, love and solitude, all of which result in and unusual collection of paintings which you can enjoy on this site.
  
  After Glasgow School of Art, she pursued an MA in Public Art and Design at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art, Dundee.She has also undertaken public commissions in hand painted tiles and mosaics.Winner of the Laing Landscape Competition and Ruth Davidson Scholarship to S France, she has exhibited and travelled widely, including to China, India, Pakistan and Egypt.
  
  Her work is on show until 30 December 2006 at the House for an Art Lover, Bellahouston Park, Glasgow in association with Cyril Gerber Fine Art.

  After graduating from Glasgow Burr completed an MA in Public Art and Design at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art, Dundee in 1987.She has exhibited and travelled widely including going to China and India.Burr has won awards including the Ruth Davidson Memorial awards, has work in various public collections and has executed numerous public commissions.She has also taught part-time at Glasgow School of Art.Burr works most directly with landscape.Her sketches from life are transformed through her imagination into images that are romantic, dream-laden and filled with quiet.Burr lives in the Shetland Islands where the strange beauty of the Northern light; luminous summers and dark silent winters are major influences on her work.Nature is the vehicle for her ideas, which encompass themes of the cycle of life and death, love, loss, longing and spirituality.
