Dr. Kevin Burr, faculty advisor of the club and BYU professor of architecture studies within the construction management program, is unsure if BYU will ever implement a complete architecture program.
However, he said BYU students are not at all at a disadvantage without the full program at BYU.
"You can get all the education of the nuts and bolts of the program in the undergraduate work here at BYU, then transfer to get the design theory in the graduate work," Burr said. "That really makes effective, qualified architects."
Thompson agrees his future career in architecture will not suffer because he is at BYU. BYU's construction management program is very strong, he said. Engineering News Record recognized BYU for having one of the largest construction management programs in the nation.
BYU's American Institute of Architecture Students is not just for construction management majors. Thompson said he welcomes anyone interested in architecture to be involved.
"Most importantly we want each club member to get a stronger background in architecture accompanied with experience so they are more marketable in the long run," he said. -

This project is an excellent learning opportunity , said Kevin Burr , assistant director of the BYU School of Technology. There isn't a better way to learn than through experience..
Burr said students learn more effectively when serving real clients.
When there is a service motive behind something , it stretches them to learn more , Burr said.
Students start Monday mornings with a devotional , meant to bring in the spirit uniting the group to remember their purpose of serving , Burr said.
The group then takes time to solve small and detailed issues on the project.
The students involved spend up to 30 hours a week for the three-credit class.

Burr said it hasn't been easy , but it has been amazing how well the project has been going.
Challenges have been present , but proper learning has allowed us to overcome them , Burr said.
