   Don Burnside BSc(Agric) PhD CPAg has 27 years professional experience in rangeland planning, management and evaluation, addressing issues at biophysical, economic and social levels. For most of this period, he was employed by the Western Australian Department of Agriculture. He provided strategic and tactical advice direct to land holders managing pastoral and mining operations in the southern shrublands of Western Australia. He has contributed to resource inventory and condition surveys, rangeland monitoring and financial assessments of rangeland enterprises and industries. He has been involved in research projects in grazing management, landscape rehabilitation following mining, regional planning, and judgement and decision making in land management. He has assisted in policy development at state and national levels.
   
   Since 1998, he has been employed by a consulting firm (URS Australia Pty Ltd), and has completed a number of rangeland projects for private and public sector clients. These have included land use and management planning at property and regional scales, the development of a rationale for land use and rehabilitation targets for a mining company, and a synoptic regional analysis of the ecological and economic performance of the rangeland grazing industries at regional scale across Australia. He has also evaluated major Government programs in regional development in the rangelands.
   
   Don was a member of the Organising Committee for the VIth International Rangeland Congress held in Townsville, Australia 1999. He is a member of the Publications Committee for the Australian Rangeland Society, and a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Agricultural Science and Technology.
