   William Joseph Burns, Jr. was born the eldest of four siblings from the union of William Joseph Burns, Sr. and Katherine Hesse Burns on February 13, 1940 in the Morgan Park community.

   At the age of 7, William moved with his family to Maywood, IL, where he was one of the first African - American students to integrate St. James Elementary School.He attended High School at St. Phillip Neri, and began his collegiate endeavors at Navy Pier Loop Jr. College.Shortly after, he enlisted in the United States Air Force.After completing 4 years of active duty, he resumed undergraduate studies at Roosevelt University in Chicago.He became a member of the National Association of Public Administrators before earning his BS in Public Administration.His diligence and academic position earned him a Fellowship to continue his postgraduate studies at Roosevelt where he completed his Masters Degree in Public Administration.On June 14, 1964, William married Shirley Marie Prunty.

   In June of 1981, William moved his family back to Broadview, IL. For the past 16 plus years, he has worked for CEDA/PLCCA, in the capacity of Human Resource Director and most recently as Vice President of Operations.When William made time for himself, it was not uncommon for him to be camped out in his basement, absorbing his vast collection of blues and jazz.It was his priority to spend time each year in Woodland Park, MI on fishing trips with friends, kicking back, relaxing, and escaping the stressors of work.His collective love for Chicago, history, and reading, led him to pursue another Master's Degree in History.Given his vast knowledge of Chicago History, he was periodically called upon to participate as a guest lecturer in various Chicago History symposiums held at Roosevelt University.When he wasn't fishing or researching, he took special delight exercising his culinary skills in the kitchen ... an attribute he, no doubt, inherited from his mother Katherine.In 1995 William moved into the Chatham community and on July 1, married Wilma J. White.
