   Food Lion Names Burns Atlantic Division Vice President
   
   5/4/2004 SALISBURY, N.C. - Food Lion has named Ty Burns vice president of retail operations - Atlantic Division. In his new position, Burns oversees the operations of 220 Food Lion stores in Maryland, northern Virginia, Delaware, Pennsylvania and West Virginia. His areas of responsibility include developing retail strategies and leading company initiatives, merchandising, recruiting and staff development, quality assurance, profitability and customer satisfaction.

   Burns, a 31-year supermarket industry veteran, joined Food Lion in 2002 as a regional director of retail operations, guiding stores in central North Carolina. He successfully led Food Lion's effort to remodel 68 stores in the Raleigh-Durham, N.C., market in 2003, while keeping the stores open and serving customers.
   
   Before joining Food Lion, Burns held numerous leadership positions with Fleming Foods, Abco Food Stores and Lucky Stores, including director of operations, district manager, produce merchandiser, IT project manager and store manager.

   A native of Arizona, Burns attended California Coast University and the University of Arizona, earning a bachelor's degree in management. Burns and his wife have a daughter and two adults sons.
