   A prolific African-American entrepreneur, Tommie Burns, Jr. is a respected business and community leader in the Commonwealth of Kentucky. He currently is the majority owner and Chairman of T&WA, Inc., and owns Burns Enterprises, Inc., where he serves as President and Chief Executive Officer. Both companies are certified as Minority Business Enterprises ("MBE").
   
   A native of Mississippi, Mr. Burns developed his entrepreneurial spirit at a young age in the 1960's. Despite being a young African-American who finished high school as an adult and after marrying, Mr. Burns persevered through volatile times for black Americans. His strong work ethic, determination, and values set the path for him to become one of the most successful African-American businessmen in Kentucky.
   
   Mr. Burns' initial business was founded in 1968 when he landed his first account with the Mercantile Bank of Louisville. Various other business ventures have emerged under his leadership through today including T&WA, Inc., Burns Enterprises, Inc., Burns Packaging, Inc., Burns Rigging, Burns Chemical Company, Business Support Services, Inc., and the Big M Marathon convenience store. Overall, Mr. Burns employs over 1,300 people through his business interests and operations in several states, including New York, Ohio, Iowa, Tennessee, Indiana, Alabama and Kentucky. Mr. Burns teamed with Gary Dodd in 1995 to form T&WA, Inc., and this venture expands on his business interests in automotive modular assemblies, parts production and support services.
   
   Mr. Burns is a proactive leader within the Louisville, Kentucky community. He is currently an active member of several Boards of Directors, including Greater Louisville Inc., the Kentuckiana Minority Supplier Development Council; The Boys and Girls Clubs of America; Boy Scouts of America; March of Dimes; Chestnut Street YMCA; Third Christian Church; Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Kentuckiana; the Kentucky Center for the Arts and the African-American Venture Capital Fund, LLC.
   
   Mr. Burns and his wife, Barbara, reside in Louisville and have four children and nine grandchildren.
