David Burns Jr. teaches biology

GALESBURG - Carl Sandburg College biology instructor David Burns Jr. received the Distinguished Alumnus Award.The award, given each year, recognizes a successful Carl Sandburg College graduate.
Burns is a tenure-track biology instructor who began teaching full-time at the college in August 2003 after working as an adjunct instructor since 1997.He teaches general biology, human anatomy, fundamentals of anatomy, environmental science, and microbiology.
Burns earned an associate of art and an associate of science degree from Carl Sandburg College in 1989.He was a Sandburg Scholars graduate, earned dean's list honors, was on the College Board's College Scholarship Service Talent Roster, and was honored in Who's Who Among Students in American Junior Colleges.
After graduation from CSC, Burns attended Knox College, where he graduated with a bachelor of science degree in biology.He earned varsity letters in football and track.
Burns then went on to Western Illinois University, graduating with a master of science degree in biology and was an ICEOP Minority Graduate Fellow.While in graduate school, he worked as a graduate teaching assistant.He also spent a summer working with the Cooperative Basin Survey, where he assisted the Illinois Department of Natural Resources with sampling fish populations.
Burns is married and he and his wife have four children.His wife Alice also is a graduate of Carl Sandburg College.One of their children is a Carl Sandburg College student.
