HVGS sports co-ordinator Tony Burgess said a concerted push towards the sport was paying dividends, with six teams from the school also nominating to play outside of the school curriculum in the Wallsend summer competition.

Several of the players also turn out in other social competitions together and have done so for years.

Burgess said it was a good achievement for the school to boast almost a quarter of representation in the CIS teams and the school's strong history in the sport continued to flourish.

Hunter Valley Grammar School sports co-ordinator Tony Burgess said the results were better than last year and were a reflection on the time and effort the students put into their sport.

"One thing we pride ourselves on is being able to give our students every opportunity to represent the school at the highest possible level," Burgess said.

HVGS sports co-ordinator Tony Burgess said Riorden's selection in girls cricket was the first for the school in a number of years and was proud of all the student's achievements in keeping the school on the State sporting map.

Hunter Valley Grammar School head of sport Tony Burgess said the school had established itself as one of the region's best providers of sporting talent.

"We have been pretty fortunate to have quite a few students representing at CIS level," Burgess said.

"All four students have shown the school their commitment to getting themselves to such a high standard in the school sporting system."

Burgess was quick to praise the achievements of talented up-and-coming basketball star Sophie Johnston who more than matched it with girls of an older age.

Burgess also praised the efforts of Stahl, who put in a number of impressive performances in helping lead the CIS Australian Rules team to a finals appearance at the State championships.

Burgess said the school's sporting success came down to a polished sporting program and the dedication of its staff and parents.

"There is a commitment from the school to provide the students with a great opportunity in sport, from club to representative level, and the dedication of the staff and parents who give so much of their time," he said.
