Mr. Burgess specializes in the area of litigation, prosecution and counseling clients in patent matters, primarily in the mechanical arts area.His practice includes preparation of infringement and validity opinions along with the preparation and prosecution of patent applications.

Mr. Burgess has extensive experience in other areas of intellectual property law, including procurement and protection of trademarks and copyrights.

As a founding member of Warn, Burgess & Hoffmann, Mr. Burgess has experience in a wide variety of intellectual property matters, including the many phases of litigation at both the trial court level and the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.

Mr. Burgess is a past president of the Michigan Patent Law Association.He is admitted to practice before Michigan, Federal and State Courts, the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal and Sixth Circuits, and the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

Mr. Burgess received a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering, with emphasis in the area of structural design, in 1980 from Michigan Technological University.Upon graduation, he worked for several years in the oil industry prior to attending and graduating Cum Laude in 1988 from Thomas M. Cooley Law School, where he was a member of the Cooley Law Review.
