Hestand and Buntenbah, Team Alpha, deployed high up in tree stands; Colyer and Dickey, Team Bravo, were joined by news team Collier and Rodriguez; Kessler and Wade, Team Charlie, deployed to the north of the others and closest to camp.

At approximately 03:00 as John Dickey assisted Chris Buntenbah down from his tree stand position, Colyer began the 250 yard solo trek from Buntenbah's position to provide assistance for the other tree climber, Jerry Hestand.
