PASSINGS - We are sorry to report the passing of two of our printing industry friends, Paul Barcus and Bert Buckbee.
...
BERT BUCKBEE - He taught at West Virginia Tech's printing school and was famous in my mind for the line, "If I'd wanted gray ink, I would have given you gray ink," uttered to many first year printing students. He taught in the printing department of South Dakota State University prior to his chairmanship of the Printing Management Department at WV Tech, a post he held for 23 years. He also served as a Faculty Assembly President at Tech as well as an advisor for Sigma Phi Epsilon. He was an active member of the Presbyterian Church, the Rotary and was an active Boy Scout Leader. He was a World War II veteran of the Army Air Corps.
As great as his achievements were, I'm stuck with the image of his devilish smile that meant he had either a member of the administration, a student or a potential contributor fixed in his sites. He got what he wanted from all. And that was for the betterment of all. Bert Buckbee was a good printer, great teacher and even better friend should you have been so lucky to know him.
Norma, his wife of 56 years; three daughters; five grandchildren and four great grandchildren survive him. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to West Virginia Institute of Technology Bert Buckbee Printing Scholarship Fund, Montgomery, W.Va. 25136.
