"For many local businesses, their location is part of what they are selling - whether that's a visitor attraction, hotels, pubs and restaurants, or local food and drink where provenance is key," says Sarah Bryars, managing director of Target Public Relations and member of the CIPR.

"This event is not exclusively for PR and marketing professionals working in leisure and tourism. It will offer the opportunity to meet a variety of people facing similar challenges, share best practise and hear how some of the region's finest tourism communicators conduct successful marketing campaigns."

The speaker programme includes Graham Walker, recently-appointed chief executive of Marketing Gloucester, who will talk about the challenges ahead in developing a new profile for the city; Chris Dee, tourism manager for the Cotswolds and Forest of Dean Destination Management Organisation; Kellie Lovett, marketing manager, Westonbirt Arboretum; and Sarah Bryars - who will outline the campaign for the Cotswolds & Forest of Dean flood recovery programme last autumn, shortlisted in this year's CIPR Awards.

The head of PR at Target Public Relations, Sarah Bryars, has been appointed to the University of Gloucestershire's Vocational Advisory Board for the Public Relations degree course, which is just coming to the end of its inaugural year.

Sarah will be joining distinguished names from the Public Relations profession working in the region, nationally and internationally, who volunteer their expertise to support the education and development of the University's PR under-graduates. The role of the Vocational Advisory Board is to assist the University's specialist tutors in reviewing the syllabus to ensure it remains up to date with current best practice, as well as undertaking guest lectures and seminars.

Averill Gordon, course leader and senior lecturer for the University, says: "It has always been our intention to create an outstanding degree course that will produce graduates of the highest calibre ready to contribute to the PR profession".

"The Vocational Advisory Board brings a wealth of expertise which has helped us to shape the course and gain official accreditation from the Chartered Institute of Public Relations. The support of experienced and successful practitioners, such as Sarah, is absolutely integral to the development of the course and our students. We believe Gloucestershire can be a centre of excellence for both the study and practice of Public Relations."

Sarah Bryars, said: "Target is very keen to support young talent entering the industry and we'll contribute to the development of the University's Public Relations syllabus - and its students - in whatever way we can."

Diplomacy or PR; that was the suggestion of Sarah's school careers officer. But the diplomatic service's loss was Target's gain as Sarah's interest in the media and love of writing have worked wonders for clients like Saint-Gobain, Marks & Spencer and Gloucestershire Tourism to name but a few.

A career spanning roles in one of the biggest national PR consultancies, Harrison Cowley (now Trimedia) and the NHS, Sarah came to Target in 2005.

A member of the CIPR, Sarah also participates on the Vocational Advisory Panel for the University of Gloucestershire's PR degree.
