Chicago , Dr. Paul Bryar, an eye surgeon at Northwestern University and community volunteer officially entered Illinois' 5th Congressional District Special Election today.
"I have had enough with corrupt politics in Illinois and Washington and want to stop playing musical chairs with the politicians we already have.
Honesty and integrity should be expected from our elected officials, not the exception," Bryar said.
"Most of the candidates for this office are part of the corrupt political systems in Springfield, Cook County and Chicago that are run and influenced by Rod Blagojevich, Todd Stroger and City Ward Bosses.
I want to bring my experience as a doctor and teacher to Washington and join President Obama in bringing real change to our government."
Bryar supports a constitutional amendment that requires all U.S. Senate vacancies be filled by a vote of the people in a special election.
"The recent arrest and Federal complaint filed against Rod Blagojevich tainted everything he is involved in. "To restore the people's faith in our government we must return the power to choose our elected officials in these circumstances to the people."
Bryar also supports removing Blagojevich from office immediately.
"I will take this drive for reform in Chicago and Illinois and demand reform and change in Washington," Bryar exclaimed.
Bryar's priorities in Congress include: health care reform, fixing America's damaged economy, expanding education opportunities for working families, energy independence and protecting American jobs.
Bryar is a doctor and teaches at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine.
He devotes one day each week to provide eye care to patients at Winfield-Moody Health Center in Chicago's Cabrini Green neighborhood.
"I have seen firsthand the difficulties working families face with their health care," Bryar stated.
"I will fight to reform our health care system in a manner that ensures quality health care, increases access, and ensures people have a choice in their health care providers.
I will support policies that emphasize efficiency in health care and preventive medicine."
Bryar also said he wants to end George Bush's restrictions on stem cell research.
"This research can continue to find life saving cures."
Bryar explained he supports President Elect Obama's plan to jump start the economy by banning wasteful political earmark spending, the pork-barrel projects lawmakers insert into legislation without review.
He supports Obama's demands that the economic stimulus plan be evaluated by an oversight board and giving taxpayers more access to information on how their money is spent, including putting the budget online.
"I demand new ideas and a strong, comprehensive solution to our current economic crisis.
I will support policies that create new American jobs, encourage industry to adapt to a competitive world economy, repair and maintain our local roads, bridges and infrastructure."
Bryar said.
Bryar supports state proposals plans to limit tuition increases at universities; he will increase federal funding for college scholarship programs that benefit middle class families, and he supports a full tax deduction on all college expenses for families making less than one hundred fifty thousand dollars a year.
To decrease the use of foreign oil and energy, combat air pollution and lower energy costs, Bryar supports policies to require utility companies to increase their use of clean, renewable energy sources, like wind and solar power.
"Paul Bryar is a volunteer and community leader who will change business as usual in the Capitol, and end the Illinois tradition of promoting the next career politician in line.
