Joe graduated from Carleton College in 1992 with a B.A. in Economics.He entered the employee benefits field in 1996, when he joined Great-West Life & Annuity as an Employee Benefits Consultant.Joe has completed one of the most extensive employee benefit training programs in the country, offered through Great-West, and is now pursuing a designation as a Certified Employee Benefits Specialist (CEBS).Joe is also a Registered Representative and Investment Advisor Representative of NFP Securities, Inc.

After working his last four years with Great-West in Boston, Massachusetts, Joe and his wife moved back to the Minneapolis area to be closer to family.He then joined FCI in January of 2003.Joe focuses on health & welfare benefits as well as retirement plans.He adds national expertise to the Financial Concepts team, as he has worked with hundreds of benefit plans covering locations in virtually every state.

Joe Brummel, a consultant with Financial Concepts, asked Pawlenty about transportation needs, including traffic bottlenecks, which he called an important issue for business.He asked if funding formulas could be changed so the most heavily used roads in the metro receive more funding, compared to less-used outstate roads.

Pawlenty said the formula is based on lineal miles of road, rather than number of lanes.The Legislature is split evenly geographically, he said, and lawmakers are at an impasse over the funding formula.

"If we could only get people to do what's right for our state," Brummel said later.
