Andy graduated from Colorado State University in December of 1995.He majored in biology as preparation for going on to medical school. But by the fall of 1995, Andy was less eager to go on to postgraduate study right away, and he sensed that God might be calling him to be involved in missions.

Beginning in September of 1996, Andy was a missionary in East Asia with Campus Crusade for Christ. He lived on a university campus as a language student. His six teammates quickly recognized his aptitude for learning languages.Outside of class, Andy would meet native university students. This was done by guest speaking for English classes or clubs, but usually he would initiate a conversation with a stranger by asking "Which building is the library?"for the umpteenth time.Sharing his faith was a painstaking process, because it had to be done discretely in this communist country, and few people even knew who Jesus was.But one of the highlights of the year was when Andy's friend, Jack, placed his trust in Christ.

Andy returned to the States in July of 1997 wanting to pursue medicine with as much devotion as he had missions. He took an EMT class, got a job in a hospital, and began applying to medical schools. But after several months, Andy realized his heart was no longer in it.He had been hooked on missions. However, he knew from his time in East Asia that if was to make mission work his career, he would need more education and training to prepare himself.

In January of 1999, Andy began his studies in cross-cultural ministries at Dallas Theological Seminary. While in seminary, he began learning about Muslim peoples who had been liberated from communism in the past decade. They were now free to explore spirituality, but if nobody told them the good news of Jesus Christ, they could become entrenched once again in Islam.

At the same time, Andy learned about a mission agency named PIONEERS that shared his basic philosophy of missions - starting churches among people with little or no exposure to the gospel. In January of 2001, Andy became a member of PIONEERS and was appointed to join their Bosnia team.Bosnia has a large post-communist Muslim population, and the sufferings of all Bosnians in the past decade found a soft spot in Andy's heart.

After graduating from seminary in May 2001, Andy returned to Denver to gain more ministry experience at his home church, Creekside. He is currently an intern for the young adults ministry, in which he plans monthly events and periodically teaches the weekly Bible study.Andy also works with Creekside Student Ministries. He plays percussion for its worship band and leads a small group Bible study for sophomores and juniors.

In August of 2002, Andy will leave to join the PIONEERS team in Sarajevo, Bosnia. At first, he will focus on learning the Bosnian language, but ultimately, he hopes to continue small group teaching and shepherding with teenagers and young adults.
