Horses have always been Brenda Bruckner's favorite subject matter and they dominate her art. The only thing she'd rather do than draw them is ride! Brenda and her husband, steve own and operate a cattle ranch near South Dakota - Nebraska border. Most of her subject matter is home raised, from the Bruckner cattle and horses, to Brenda's husband and two daughters. Neighborhood brandings, local horse shows, rodeos and scenes from the ranch are often subject matter for her work. Brenda's studio bears the name of their cattle brand, the L Lazy E.
Brenda's formal training consisted of a short commercial art course of Northern State University in Aberdeen, South Dakota, but she considers herself self-taught. She works primarily in colored pencil and is a member of the Colored Pencil Society of America, as well as the Equine Art Guild. Brenda also works in graphite pencil, pen & ink, oil and acrylic and has a total of 21 prints on the market and has 3 sold out editions.
Bruckner's work has appeared on the covers of publications such as The South Dakota Magazine, SDQA Corral, OQHA Today, Equine Images, Western Horseman, Tri-State Livestock News, Bit and Bridle and North Light Artists' Magazine. In 1996 she was commissioned to paint the "ideal Foundation Quarter Horse" by the Foundation Quarter Horse Registry. Brenda has work in all fifty states as well as Canada, Austrailia, Germany, Spain and Mexico.
