(PORTLAND, OR) - Dawn Brucker, MSW, LCSW, a social worker for Legacy Cancer Services, has received the Neuro-Oncology Social Worker of the Year Award from the National Brain Tumor Foundation. She received the honor at the national conference of the Association of Oncology Social Work, held in Washington, D.C. earlier this month.
Nominations are submitted by association members or medical teams in recognition of a hospital-based neuro-oncology social worker who provides innovative and compassionate services to brain tumor patients and their families. Nominees demonstrate professionalism, integrity and commitment; have well-developed clinical expertise; are knowledgeable about community resources and aware of patient needs; work as an advocate for patients; and are committed to fulfilling patient and family needs.
Brucker, a resident of Northeast Portland, has worked at Legacy Health System since 1995. In her role as an oncology social worker, she works closely with patients who have been diagnosed with cancer (many with brain cancer) and their families to provide counseling, support, education and resource identification as needed. Brucker also co-facilitates the state's only ongoing brain tumor support and education group. She's also an integral part of the Legacy Brain and Spinal Cord Tumor Service, which offers a coordinated, full spectrum of care to patients with tumors in the central nervous system. -
