"This is my dream job, something I have always wanted to do," Bruce said. "It will be a challenge, but I look forward to it and I feel like I'm up to it."

During his tenure at Slippery Rock, Bruce was instrumental in the creation and implementation of the athletic department's Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drugs (ATOD) awareness, Student Athlete Mentor, football neuro-psychological concussion assessment and form-fitted mouthguard programs.

Bruce had worked at Slippery Rock since January 1993. Prior to that, he served four years as head trainer at Adrian (Mich.) College. Before his stint at Adrian, he served three years as head trainer at Geneva College in Beaver Falls, PA. Bruce also has extensive experience working with Olympic sports, having worked at the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta and at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, CO, in 1994.

A native of Freedom, PA, and graduate of Freedom Area High School, Bruce received a Bachelor of Science degree in physical education (emphasis in athletic training) from East Stroudsburg University in 1983. He received a Master of Science degree in Physical Education (emphasis in exercise science) from Eastern Illinois University in 1988.

Bruce received his athletic trainer certification from the National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA) in 1984 and also holds certification from the Pennsylvania State Board of Physical Therapy and is a certified instructor in CPR, First Aid and Automated External Defibrillators.

Bruce is currently a member of the NATA and the Pennsylvania Athletic Trainers Society, for which he served as treasurer
