Laurie Bruce, Director
Laurie Bruce, MA, RPP is an environmental planning consultant specializing in the field of environmental assessment. Since 1989 Laurie has worked in the consulting field managing project specific and strategic environmental assessments; developing guidance materials; providing environmental assessment training; and facilitating public consultation programs. She has coordinated many large environmental assessments including landfill site searches for various Ontario municipalities; the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act screening for a Toronto's first wind turbine; and, the management of the environmental assessment for the bridge to the Toronto Island Airport.
In addition to the management of environmental assessments, Laurie has been asked by the federal government on numerous occasions to provide advisory services related to the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act including the development of Port Authority Regulations, Toronto Olympic Bid and Toronto Waterfront Revitalization. Laurie has also worked with the Ontario Ministry of the Environment on the development of training and guidance materials. She is currently writing the Ministry of Environment's Code of Practice for Class EAs.

Windsor, Ontario - The Detroit River Tunnel Partnership (DRTP) today announced it has engaged Laurie Bruce as facilitator for the federal environmental assessment of its project to construct a new, larger rail tunnel under the Detroit River and convert its existing twin-tube tunnel into a secure, dedicated commercial truck route directly linking Highway 401 in Ontario with Interstate 75 in Michigan.
As facilitator, Ms. Bruce is responsible for planning and implementation of the community and stakeholder consultation program for the environmental assessment process. She will facilitate open houses, public meetings and other activities to ensure the public is well informed about DRTP's project and has opportunities to ask questions, provide input and raise concerns that can be addressed in the project's design, construction and operation. She will also ensure that the consultation process meets or exceeds the requirements of the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act.
DRTP's first public information session will be held on Wednesday, December 4th, from 4 p.m. until 9 p.m. at the Holiday Inn Select, 1855 Huron Church Road. At 7 p.m., there will be a brief presentation by DRTP and its consultants, followed by a question and answer session with the public.

Ms. Bruce has worked in the environmental planning field for over eighteen years. She is principal of Planning Solutions, which provides professional services in public consultation and community relations, alternative dispute resolution, environmental assessment and training for government agencies, non-profit organizations, educational institutions and industry. Ms. Bruce has carried out consultation and facilitation for a variety of projects, including the siting of a disposal facility for dredged sediment in the St. Clair River. She has served on the board of the Ontario Society for Environmental Management and is a member of the International Association for Impact Assessment and the Ontario Professional Planning Institute. -
