The $1,400 scholarship memorializes the work of Larry Bruce, Jr., a Huntington native and Marshall University alumnus who was also the President of the U.S. Committee for United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) from 1985-1992. During his tenure at the U.S. Committee for UNICEF, he doubled both private and public funding of the agency, which supports the work of the United Nations Children Fund. Bruce died in 1992.
The Larry Bruce, Jr. Memorial Scholarship was established by Secretary of State Ken Hechler to memorialize the life of Bruce, who at one point was a Congressional aid to Hechler when he was a member of Congress.
Justice is the sixth student to win the scholarship since it was established in 1994. -
