   BEN BRUCE serves as the director of annual giving at Freed-Hardeman University in Henderson, Tenn. He also serves as minister for New Hope Church of Christ in Middleton, Tenn. He earned his Doctor of Ministry with an emphasis in leadership from Liberty Theological Seminary in Lynchburg, Va. His dissertation is entitled Increasing Financial Stewardship in the Church of Christ.Aug. 1, 2007

   Ben Bruce will attend graduation at Liberty University on Saturday, despite the unexpected death of the university's president, the Rev. Jerry Falwell.

   Bruce is the director of annual giving at Freed-Hardeman University and has his Master of Divinity degree from Liberty. He will be receiving a doctorate degree Saturday.
   
   Bruce was one of several local ministers, educators and students who took time Tuesday to reflect on Falwell's legacy as a minister and educator.
   
   Falwell lectured at some of Bruce's classes.
   
   "I really admire his leadership and his fight for the unborn and his help for orphans," Bruce said.

   Although many saw Falwell as bold and outspoken, Bruce believes Falwell was a humble person.
   
   "Everybody makes mistakes, and he always apologized when he said things that were wrong," he said.
