   Matt also plays keyboards, bass, arranges, and composes. He is at ease performing in many genres and has taken his cello improvisation skills into diverse musical territories.

   Matt worked for several years as composer and cellist/bassist with the San Francisco based Club Foot Orchestra. He wrote a section of Club Foot's critically acclaimed score for Pandora's Box. Club Foot's score for this silent movie classic premiered at the San Francisco Film Festival and subsequently toured the United States, including performances in New York at Lincoln Center.
   
   Matt also contributed compositions to Club Foot's score for the CBS television animated series The Twisted Tails of Felix the Cat. Additionally, Matt has written string arrangements for diverse artists, ranging from Sheryl Crow to the Kronos Quartet.
   
   Matt continues to play classical cello and has been a member of the Berkeley Symphony Orchestra since 1989. Under the adventurous direction of Maestro Kent Nagano, Matt enjoys performing the traditional classical repertoire, as well as the works of many established and emerging new music composers.

   Matthew Brubeck , one of the leading players of jazz cello, is the youngest member of the musical Brubeck family. He is equally at home performing classical, jazz, and other types of improvisational music. He plays cello in the Berkeley Symphony Orchestra, and previously held chairs in the San Jose and California Symphony Orchestras, as well as being an experienced performer of chamber music. Recently Matthew has performed with the Oranj Symphonette, whose "reverential deconstruction" of Henry Mancini tunes can be heard on their 1996 Gramavision recording. He was also a member of the Clubfoot Orchestra, an ensemble whose repertoire ranges from silent movie scores to cartoon music (during 1996 they composed and played the scores for the Saturday network cartoon "Felix the Cat") to arrangements of film composer Nina Rota's music. As a sideman, Matt has worked with singer/songwriter Tom Waits, Sheryl Crow, Jewel, and the Indigo Girls.
