Barry Brubaker, Gammapar's chief executive officer, said company executives decided PermaGrain's acquisition would be a good move for Gammapar, which is located in Forest.
"Over the years, PermaGrain has developed a solid reputation as being a quality company with a high service standard," Brubaker said. "We will build on that reputation as we develop and implement some exciting plans for revising and expanding the PermaGrain product line in the coming months."
PermaGrain officials could not be reached for comment. A phone call to the company reached a recording that announces, "The office has permanently shut its doors." According to news reports, PermaGrain's financial struggles resulted, in part, because of radioactive contamination - by a past tenant - of a building PermaGrain leased in Northwest Pennsylvania's Clearfield County. Plans to move the company to a different building stalled, reportedly because of disputes between state and federal officials about how to handle cleanup of the existing plant.

But Brubaker said PermaGrain had other major financial problems related to nonflooring businesses it owned that were performing poorly. Gammapar is not buying those businesses, he said. -
