Susan Brozenec, a fifth grade teacher at J.B. Nelson Elementary School in Batavia, Illinois happened upon the Fertile Minds Web site by accident one day.
Brozenec, who has been teaching for nearly 20 years, was slated to teach a summer course on Earth sciences without a set curriculum and she needed a place to start.
After clicking through the site, she realized what a gold mine she had found.
"The information about nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium all being naturally occurring elements was great for science, but the more I worked with the information, the more my students wanted to know," Brozenec said.
...
"I'm excited to start Fertile Minds again with my class in the fall," Brozenec said.
As a teacher, Brozenec says that the best way to ensure that a program like Fertile Minds continues to grow is to start educating children.
