Christian TV station pressing to return soon - [Cached Version]

The nonprofit evangelical Christian organization's station KLGV had been in Longview since 1993, President Paul J. Broyles said, broadcasting on UHF Channel 10 , not Cable Channel 10, but the channel that viewers could pick up by antenna.

The station went off the air in February and is returning on Channel 36, again, not on cable, although Broyles hopes the station eventually will be available through local cable companies within 35 miles of its transmitter site.

The 27-year-old organization has 10 other stations in Texas, as well as an orphanage and school in Honduras, Broyles said.

"Our sole purpose is to bring glory and honor to almighty God," he said."We have only Christian programming."

In Longview, though, the station has "simply been rebuilding," he said.

The station stopped broadcasting locally in February after losing the channel to KLTV, Broyles explained, adding later that he wasn't complaining about what happened. His organization tries to work with all other stations, he said.

Broyles said it "took a while" to get approval from the FCC for the new channel.

"We will be on the air at the earliest possible date," he said, adding that he hopes that occurs before the end of the year, possibly by the end of this month.

The station previously leased tower access and a transmitter building on Cherokee Street in southwestern Longview.

The company's local operations will now be at 2929 Signal Hill Drive, where it acquired eight acres, a 330-foot freestanding tower and a 3,000-square-foot brick building. That building will be renovated later for a studio, Broyles said.

Until then, programming will be produced at other locations. The company already has received a building permit for a new transmitter building at the site.

"We want to serve the local churches of Longview," he said.
