Ruth Ballentine Brownley

A native of Atlanta, Brownley was a son of the late Floyd Irving and Ruth Ballentine Brownley.He was the widower of Martine Watson Brownley.

He received a chemistry degree from Wofford College, a master's degree from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and a doctorate from Florida State University.

During World War II, he served in the Pacific Theater as a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy.

He held several teaching and administrative positions at Clemson University and the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.He retired from Winthrop University, where he served as vice provost.
