Bexley's athletic director Jack Brownley, who also held the same position at Marion-Franklin and Gahanna, looks at the problem this way.
"Every school has a small minority of adult people who feel the need for excessive participation at a game. They call attention to themselves by yelling at coaches, players and referees. I don't really thing this problem has changed over the years, but I do think that one of the trends today is for the other adults in the stands to avoid confronting the person who is being disruptive. Maybe it's because of some of the violent acts that have occurred, but I now find that when some fan is being obnoxious, other adults will look away or move to another location and simply avoid contact with that adult. I sometimes wish we had more community support with this issue." -

"The geographical proximity of only heading east is attractive to us versus being in the middle of the league in the BAC," Bexley athletic director Jack Brownley said. "It will be a tough league, with a number of schools of championship caliber in many sports."
Bexley still will have to make the 49-mile one-way trip to Licking Valley, but it will eliminate trips to BAC-rivals Miami Trace and Washington Court House, both of which are more than 50 miles away. Lakewood is 39 miles away, and Granville is a 30-mile trip.
The Lions were a charter member of the BAC in 1989, but Brownley said the MSL opportunity was too good to pass up.
"If we didn't accept, somebody else from the current MSL- Buckeye Division or Miami Trace would have," he said. "And being able to continue our rivalries with Lakewood and Licking Valley was another reason to say yes.
"We had to come to a decision on what was a better opportunity and who would be similar in size over the next five years. It was a compelling argument and a better opportunity for our future."
...
Brownley said the only financial considerations in the decision to leave the BAC come from expectations for higher gate receipts related to less round-trip travel for parents and fans.
"(Scheduling is) not insurmountable being an independent, but it's difficult," he said. "Athletes and coaches get into sports to compete, and that's why they form leagues. It allows them to accomplish all of their goals. League titles and honors are things kids strive for."
