The letter by Kern County Deputy District Attorney John Brownlee shows, once again, that "mean" justice and "unequal" justice can't be sustained without frequent injections of hysteria, paranoia, panic and other unreasonable passions into the public mindset. Not only that, but they ultimately cost too much.
Brownlee expects us to believe that drunken drivers, for example, would routinely get away with killing innocent people in the streets if his boss, Ed Jagels, answered simple questions like: What did you know?
...
Brownlee should be as mindful of this fact as he is quick to suggest that his boss has withstood and endured relentless attack by the newspaper. Please continue to demand accountability and integrity from our leaders and those who serve us.
