John A. Brownlee
ROANOKE -- John Alexander Brownlee , 90 , died Aug. 30 , 2001
He was a native of Portsmouth , where he lived until moving to Roanoke. Mr. Brownlee began a 50-year career in railroads in 1929 with the Virginian Railway in Norfolk. Upon the merger of the Virginian Railway and Norfolk and Western Railroad in 1959 , he moved to Roanoke. He was manager of Budget Administration when he retired from the Norfolk and Western Railroad in June 1974. He became affiliated with the Allied Tool and Machine Company of Roanoke in 1976 as assistant treasurer and remained with them until his death.
Mr. Brownlee was a member of First Baptist Church , Roanoke.
He is survived by his wife , Nancy Brownlee ; his daughter , Boleyn Brownlee Dale and her husband , Kenny , of Moon , Va. ; his grandchildren , Nancy Joan Stotts and her husband , David , of Pittsboro , N.C. , J. Douglas Miller Jr. and his wife , Allison , of Virginia Beach , John Allen Miller and his wife , Kandace , of Lawrence , Ind. , and Frederick A. Miller of Orlando , Fla. ; and seven great-grandchildren , Jonathan , Catherine , Carolyn and Joanna Stotts , Charlotte , Allen and Nathan Miller.
A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday in Brandon Oaks Retirement Community with the Rev. Bob Ward officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Chaplaincy Endowment Fund of Virginia Lutheran Homes , 4235 Colonial Ave. , SW , Roanoke , VA 24018 or to a charity of your choice. Arrangements are by Oakey's South Chapel.
