    Tony Browning

Tony began his musical studies in England. At the age of thirteen, he was among the youngest to have successfully auditioned for the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain, and he played the double bass for the NYO for his teenage years performing all over the British Isles including concerts at the Edinburgh Festival and at the Henry Wood Promenade concert season. In his years as an undergraduate, at the University of York in England, Tony was the principal double bass player of the University Orchestra and Chamber Orchestra. Also, during his four years in York, Tony was a counter-tenor lay-clerk in York Minster Choir, and he performed regularly with the Yorkshire Baroque Soloists and with the B.B.C. Northern Singers.

On emigrating to Canada in 1975, Tony has performed as a countertenor soloist with a large number of choirs and choral societies including guest appearances with The Elmer Iseler Singers, and the C.B.C. More recently, Tony has concentrated on conducting and directing, and for the past decade he has been the artistic director and conductor of the Marion Singers. Earlier in his career, Tony has conducted community orchestras based at St James' Cathedral and St. Clement's Eglinton in Toronto, and he is now the conductor of the York Strings Chamber Ensemble. Tony is director of Music at Trinity Anglican Church in Aurora, and has been the administrative and musical director of the Toronto Diocesan Choir School for Girls for thirty years. Tony has had a number of his choral compositions published, and in 1998 was a finalist in the Elora Festival Hymn writing contest.

Tony holds a masters degree in Mathematics and has been a math teacher at The Bishop Strachan School in Toronto for over thirty years, and he currently directs the BSS Summer Academy.
