   Proffitt's chief executive Toni Browning will head Saks Inc.'s 41-store Parisian department store chain as the company unravels the Department Store Group most recently headed by George Jones, who is resigning.

   Proffitt's/McRae's stores had revenue of about $700 million last year, according to Saks.

   Before joining Proffitt's, Browning held posts with Younkers between 1993 and 1997, including senior vice president of stores.
   
   Prior to Younkers, Browning held various positions with Dayton Hudson Corp. and with both the Lazarus and Blocks division of Federated/Allied Stores.
