Mr. Browning served his country proudly with the U. S. Marines in WWII.He often told the story of paying someone to pass the swimming test in order to enlist because he couldn't swim.After an honorable discharge from the service he studied to become a mortician in Chicago.

Mr. Browning practiced as a mortician with Geest Funeral Home in Culpeper for a number of years.It was after this that he found his life-long career with Peoples Life Insurance Company.He sold insurance in 5 counties for many years.There were very few people in Culpeper who didn't know the "insurance man".Even with a busy career he only missed one of his daughter's high school softball games.
