   Dominique Browning has been the Editor-in-Chief of House & Garden since 1995.She was previously the editor of Mirabella magazine.Ms. Browning was a founding partner of the Edison Schools, a company created to manage public schools.At Newsweek she she became the first woman to be named an assistant managing editor of a news weekly.Under her direction Newsweek produced award-winning coverage of lifestyle, books, movies, music, religion, family, psychology, and health topics.Ms. Browning was also the executive editor of Texas Monthly.She began her career at Esquire magazine, where she was one of the magazine's literary editors.
   
   House & Garden celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2001.Under Ms Browning's direction the magazine has been nominated three times for a National Magazine Award in the category of General Excellence and once in the category of Essays and Criticism category.It now has a monthly circulation of over 900,000 readers.
   
   In her capacity as editor-in-chief, Ms. Browning lectures extensively around the United States on decorating, architecture, and gardening.She is the author of Around the House and in the Garden: A Memoir of Heartbreak, Healing and Home Improvement (New York: Scribner, 2002) and Paths of Desire: The Passions of a Suburban Gardener (New York: Scribner, 2004).
