Stan Brownell Selected to Serve on Youth Center Board
Rensselaer County Legislator Stan Brownell has been selected as a representative to the board that manages a secure facility for youths on behalf of four counties in the Capital District.
As a member of the Capital District Youth Center Inc.Board of Directors, Brownell will help oversee funding and operation of the Capital District Youth Center Inc.Brownell was appointed in his capacity as a member of the Capital District Regional Planning Commission, which provides planning services to four member counties in the Capital District.
Rensselaer, Albany, Saratoga and Schenectady counties are jointly responsible for the 24-bed facility. The four counties entered a partnership to support the establishment of the facility about one decade ago, after the cost of transporting juveniles to secure detention facilities as far away as Buffalo became prohibitive. The facility is located near the Albany International Airport in Colonie.Other neighboring counties in the area are also able to use the facility when there is available space.
"The secure youth center provides an important service for Rensselaer County and other counties in the area and I look forward to playing a role in managing the facility," said Brownell.
"Stan is one of the go-to guys in the Legislature, and we appreciate him stepping up and taking on this new position on behalf of the county," noted Chairman of the Legislature Neil J. Kelleher.
Brownell first was named a member of the CDRPC board in 2001.Along with serving as member of the CDRPC and the CDYCI, Brownell serves as chairman of the legislative Planning and Public Works Committees and the Aging Committee. He is now in his third term as a member of the Legislature.
