Bruce Brownell
Bruce Brownell thrived in two worlds: builder and buddy.
As a builder, he left his imprint from Fairfax to Round Hill, where he put together his crowning project, the Stoneleigh golf community.
As a friend, "he was generous, he would give you the shirt off his back," said Powers Thomas, an insurance agent in Round Hill who knew Mr. Brownell for more than 40 years. "My sister (Betty Glenn) was his first date when he was 17," Thomas said.
The two worlds will come together on June 2 at a memorial service for Mr. Brownell, 57, who was found dead Friday night at his home near Purcellville.
Mr. Brownell was a Loudoun native, son of Jim and Mac Brownell, of Purcellville.
