Factory refinished on Feb. 10, 1959 for Bob Brownell, founder of Brownell's, Inc. of Montezuma, Iowa, then and now the world largest supplier of gun parts and gunsmithing tools. Mr. Brownell had the finish restored, a McGivern gold-bead sight on Partridge front sight blade installed and the barrel rib matted, and presented it to his closest friend, Lyle Kjer of Wisconsin.
...
As part of the restoration Mr. Brownell hand-carved a pair of birds eye maple grips and inlaid in white, his friend's initials "LK" in the round top where the S&W monogram is usually found, as well as inscribing the inside of the left grip with his gifting words to Mr. Kjer.
...
Accompanied by S&W factory letter dating original shipment to Meachum Arms Co., St. Louis, Mo. on Mar. 2, 1888 and a very interesting letter from Frank Brownell, the eldest son of Bob Brownell, and current president of the company.
