Deputy Chief Michael Browne
Deputy Chief Browne was born in Los Angeles, raised in Torrance and graduated from Bishop Montgomery High School. He obtained an AA degree from El Camino College, and a Bachelor of Science degree from Chapman University in Criminal Justice.
Deputy Chief Browne was hired by the Torrance Police Department on May 28, 1973. He has worked assignments as an officer in Patrol (Beat assignment and Field Training Officer), Communications, Vice & Narcotics (Crime Impact Team), Detectives (Burglary, Robbery and Homicide) and Traffic (Accident Investigation). He was promoted to Sergeant on December 3, 1991 and worked assignments in Patrol (Field Supervisor), Detectives (Crimes Property Supervisor) and Personnel (Internal Affairs Sergeant). He was promoted to Lieutenant on April 27, 1997 and worked assignments in Patrol, Detectives and as the acting Traffic Bureau Commander. Additionally, he served on the Torrance Police Officers' Association for six years, two years as president. He was promoted to Captain on August 25, 2002 and served three years as the Patrol Bureau Commander. As a Captain, he was also assigned to the Administrative Bureau.
He was promoted to Deputy Chief on November 13, 2005.
