   Dr. Kevin Browne CLINICIAN / EPIDEMIOLOGIST:
   
   After graduating, Dr. Browne worked as an economist and statistician for 5 years, but then returned to university to study medicine. He worked first in general medicine, but then specialised in occupational lung disease.
   
   He was for several years medical adviser to Cape Industries, a large asbestos manufacturing group, and was also attached part-time to Brompton Hospital, the leading London chest hospital, and to the National Heart and Lung Institute. He was for many years a
   
   member of the UK Asbestosis Research Council, of which he became chairman, and the Asbestos International Association.
   
   After leaving Cape Industries, he worked part-time for several years as a member of what was then the Pneumoconiosis Medical Panel (later, Medical Board, Respiratory Diseases) of the UK Department of Health and Social Security. He has carried out much research into asbestos-related illness, and is the author of many published scientific papers, and a frequent speaker at international conferences.

   Dr. Kevin Brown, former Group Medical Adviser for Cape Industries Ltd., one of the UK's biggest asbestos groups, reviewed a selection of epidemiological studies and concluded that while exposure to amphiboles could cause disease, chrysotile was blameless.
