    Wanda Spuhler Brown departed this life on Monday, January 21, 2002.She was born in Tucumcari, New Mexico on August 17, 1911.She was preceded in death by her husband Haldean L. Brown, her parents Frank J. and Hettie A. Spuhler, three brothers: Frank J., Harold A., and James N. Spuhler.

    She is survived by her daughter Karin Olendrowicz of Novato, CA., granddaughter & husband, Leslie & Mario Schiano of Novato, CA., grandson, Stephen Olendrowicz of Berkley, CA., brother Ralph Spuhler of Norfolk, VA., and great grandchildren Julian and Emma Schiano of Novato, CA., nieces and nephews: Karl Spuhler, Michael Spuhler of Friendswood, TX., Karen Phillips of Austin, TX., James Spuhler of Friendswood, TX., Robin Spuhler of Miami, FL., Rebecca Tuttle of Norfolk, VA., Randy Smith of Cincinnati, OH., R. Jonathan Spuhler of Fernandino Beach, FL., and R. Jeffrey Spuhler of Norfolk, VA., and numerous other relatives and friends.

    Wanda was an educator.She attended Wayland Baptist College of Plainview, Texas and after receiving her degree from Highlands University in Las Vegas, New Mexico, she taught in Tucumcari, New Mexico, Johnstown, Colorado, Taiwan, Germany, and Goose Creek CISD.

    She was a member of Westminister Presbyterian Church.She loved to travel.Even after she was unable to do so, she was always planning a trip.Wanda wore many "hats" in her 90 years.She was accorded many honors for her hard work.Three times she was awarded the "Woman of Distinction" honor.

    She was active in many organizations.In Girl Scouts she worked as trainer, camp director, board member, and president of the council.For six years she was the District Chairman of the Board in Houston.Wanda was a charter member of the Gamma Omicron Chapter in Baytown.She served as President and was District President as well as State President from 1982 until 1984.She became a Silver Sister celebrating 25 years of membership.In Alpha Delta Kappa, she was also the International Representative and volunteered to go to Mexico to organize chapters there.

    Wanda was a Baytown Little Theater board member, directing seventeen productions as well as some acting.She was president of the Baytown Symphony, a member of League of Women Voters, Baytown and Texas Retired Teachers Associations, DAR, Eastern Star and the Galveston Bay Foundation.In the American Association of University Women, Wanda served as President and Treasurer.She worked as Chairman of the Disaster Program for the Red Cross.She was also instrumental in females being allowed to enroll at Texas A&M University.She was Director of Baytown Historical Museum until her sight failed.

    Wanda has lived and been directed by the Scout motto, "Be Prepared."Her life has been one of service.
