Jeff Brown , President of the Northeast Big Buck Club was nice enough to share his information on NBBC entries from the fall of 2000.As of 4/25/01 , the NBBC had recorded 62 new entries from Connecticut , 75 from Massachusetts and 25 from Rhode Island.Of these , 24 from Massachusetts were 150-class or better , as were 16 from Connecticut and four from Rhode Island.Connecticut hunters entered two bucks in the 200 class , and Rhode Island one.Brown noted , many new records are being set throughout southern New England , primarily in the primitive weapons categories of archery and muzzleloader..He also observed that trophy distribution is evening out throughout all three states , and suburban and coastal counties are beginning to take the lead in both overall trophy production and rack/body size..
Looking at Connecticut , Brown observed : Middlesex County is emerging as new trophy hotspot with 15 entries ; Windham had been the # 1 for previous three seasons , with Litchfield always close behind..However , Brown pointed out that big bucks are coming from everywhere in state , with New London County coming on strong as well..Archers did particularly well , accounting for 1/3 of the Nutmeg State's trophies , and Brown attributed this partly to the long , liberal season.

Brown said , all other counties are showing great production , especially those closest to Boston and the shore.Plymouth County bowhunters set new records in the typical and non-typical categories.John Cunningham's non-typical measured 168-7/8 and Paul Reusch Jr.'s typical grossed 173 2/8.Essex County again produced the top shotgun buck , Mike Ryziel's 177-3/8 non-typical.
In Rhode Island , the leading county was Washington with 11 of 25 entries.
...
Brown believes that the Ocean State is destined to produce a B&C by muzzleloader.
Rhode Island's biggest buck was a 163 3/8 gross , 158 1/8 net non-typical that was , unfortunately , found dead in Washington County.

According to Brown , the Townsend buck is the largest non-typical we have officially entered for the 2000 season. It is the largest NH non-typical in our records , and the largest archery non-typical in the entire northeast , replacing the Krista buck from Connecticut , which scored 199 1/8..
