Response to Mr. Kevin Tierney on the Charismatic... - [Cached Version]

A statement made by Miss Carole Brown, the former Director of Orientation and Evangelic Outreach at Franciscan University is especially indicative of this.Over the course of a retreat, she said the following, "In order to let the Holy Spirit in [work], you need to let down your intellect.Oftentimes when we feel the Holy Spirit coming upon us, we put up an intellectual block. This is especially demonstrated in the gift of tongues. Our intellect will oftentimes be opposed to speaking in tongues" (emphasis mine).12

No deep color of red can a flag be made of to be raised in alarm in response to such a statement. The problem with this is that Miss Brown indirectly stated that God must violate our Reason and Intellect in order to work, or that we have to violate them.God does no such thing. He does not create Reason and Intellect within the human person only to violate it or have us violate it.

I've seen it happen in the past on this very statement in explaining it to others who weren't there but knew Carole Brown.
