Maplewood resident Dr. Denise Brown Allen, (affectionately known as 'DBA') Head of the Upper School Mathematics Department at The Montclair Kimberley Academy, has been selected as a recipient of a highly competitive National Association of Independent Schools/E.E. Ford Fellowship for potential independent school leaders.

A National Merit Commended Scholar and a Martin Luther King Scholar at Seton Hall University (where she gained a bachelor's degree in mathematics and an Ed.D in Supervision and Educational Administration, in addition to a master's degree in business administration from Farleigh Dickinson University) DBA has worn many hats since she left the world of industry to come to MKA, including Dean of Students, Associate Director of Admissions and Financial Aid, and Dean of Student Life.In addition to her leadership role in the math department, DBA is also advisor to the Peer Leaders group and a member of MKA's College Placement team.It is her community service 'hat', however, that she wears with the most passion.DBA advises the MKA chapter of Habitat for Humanity and annually works beside a group of seniors in Philadelphia as they work on Habitat projects for their 'May Term' experience.She is the primary liaison between MKA and their partner school in Newark, TEAM Academy, and she is responsible for the coordination, implementation and development of the numerous community service projects undertaken by students at the MKA Upper School campus.
