St. Mary Medical Center surgeon Dr. David Brotman and physician assistant Angela Smith couldn't care less.
...
Brotman, a general and vascular surgeon, is scheduled to fix 47 hernias, remove three gall bladders and perform other operations that might become necessary.
...
"That's what is great about trips like this," said Brotman."Everyone just kind of goes and does whatever they can do.I'm bringing screwdrivers, Krazy Glue and all kinds of stuff and if someone says something needs to be fixed, I'll try to handle it."
Brotman, 42, and Smith, 32, also want to contribute services and money to a program that aids schools in and around the village.
...
While Brotman's time in Peru is voluntary, St. Mary found a way to pay Smith's salary while she's there through the hospital's social accountability program.
Brotman of Northampton and Smith of Newtown Township will return from the two-week mission Nov. 20.
...
"I've never met anybody who has come back from one of these trips and said, 'It's OK, but I won't do it again,' " said Brotman.
