Featured Speaker: Dick Brooks on "The Neglected Lepidotes." For many of us in the Northeast, the Lepidotes (small-leaved "with scalse") of the Genus Rhododendron are truly the back bone of our gardens. Most of the newer generation lepidotes withstand the worst of our weather and often in the full sun all year. Dick will enlighten us about the beauty, diversity, and toughness of The Neglected Lepidotes.

Dick Brooks is a retired architect who has served in many capacities in the Massachusetts Chapter and in the American Rhododendron Society, including president of both. He was awarded the ARS Bronze Medal by his chapter in 1981 and received the ARS Gold Medal in May 1998 at the ARS Convention n Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada. Through his many years as a rhododendron enthusiast, Dick has experimented with close to 1,000 different species and hybrids, of which 800, at least, are still growing (and many still thriving) in his 1+ acre woodland garden. He is an expert in pruning rhododendrons, plant pests and diseases, is an avid propagator, and a very successful nurseryman.

Dick joined the Massachusetts Chapter shortly after its founding 29 years ago, is a charter member of their Chapter's Species Study Group, a long time participant in the Rhododendron Round Table, and a regular winner at the Mass. Chapter's Annual Truss Show.

As Dick reports, "Membership in the ARS has resulted in a bad case of rhododholism, but the plus side is that ARS members are the greatest bunch of people it's ever been my good fortune to know."

Please join us for this very important and informative meeting.
